Paint Protection Film (PPF): Coverage Options and What to Expect
Paint protection film is the only option that physically stops rock chips and scratches from reaching your paint. The main decision is how much of the car to cover.
What PPF is
Paint protection film is a clear, flexible urethane film applied directly over your car’s paint. It is thick enough to absorb the impact of gravel and road debris, and it takes the scuffs from shopping carts, bushes and careless door openings so your paint does not.
Installed well, it is very hard to see. The car looks like itself, just protected. Many modern films also have a top layer that lets fine swirl marks fade when the surface warms up in the sun. PPF is the impact-protection choice among our paint protection options.
Where chips come from
Most paint damage happens at the front of the car and behind the wheels. Freeway driving puts your bumper, hood and mirrors in the path of everything the vehicle ahead kicks up. If you commute on 17, 280 or 880, your front end is taking hits every day. Once paint chips, the only real fix is a respray. Film prevents the chip in the first place.
Coverage options
Partial front
Bumper, part of the hood and fenders, mirrors. Covers the most-hit areas.
Full front
Entire bumper, full hood, full fenders, headlights, mirrors. No visible line across the hood.
High-impact extras
Rocker panels, door edges and cups, rear wheel arches, trunk ledge. Areas that take daily wear.
Full body
Every painted panel. For cars you want to keep as close to new as possible.

What a quality install looks like
Two cars with the same film can look very different. The difference is the installation.
Clean paint underneath. Film seals in whatever is on the surface, so paint is washed, decontaminated and corrected first.
Edges tucked where possible. Wrapped edges are harder to see and less likely to lift.
Seams placed out of sight. Joins follow body lines instead of crossing open panels.
No trapped dirt, bubbles or stretch marks. Look closely at a shop’s finished cars, in daylight.
What to expect
Step 01
Consultation
We look at the car, ask how you drive and where you park, and recommend coverage.
Step 02
Preparation
Wash, decontamination and any paint correction needed.
Step 03
Installation
Film is fitted panel by panel.
Step 04
Handover
We walk the car with you and explain care for the first days and beyond.
Gloss or matte
Clear gloss film keeps your paint looking as it does now. Matte or satin film gives glossy paint a flat, satin look while protecting it, which is a way to change the finish without a wrap. Ask what finishes are available for your car.
Limits worth knowing
PPF is strong, not indestructible. A large enough impact can still mark the film or the paint under it. The benefit is that damaged film on one panel can be replaced, which costs far less than repainting.
PPF and ceramic coating together
Film stops impacts. A coating makes surfaces slick and easy to clean. Applied over film, a coating gives you both. See is ceramic coating worth it for what a coating adds.

Frequently Asked
Questions
Can you see the film?
On a quality install you have to look for it. Edges and seams are placed to be as hidden as the panel allows.
Is my car too old for PPF?
No, provided the paint is sound. Existing chips can be touched up before film goes on.
Will it damage my paint when removed?
Film is designed to come off factory paint cleanly. Repainted panels carry more risk, so tell us about any previous bodywork.
How do I wash a car with PPF?
Normally, with a pH-neutral soap. Keep pressure washers back from film edges.
How long does PPF last?
It depends on the film and on how the car is used and stored. Quality films are built to last for years. Ask about expected life and any warranty during your consultation.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the vehicle and how much of it you cover. We quote after seeing the car.
